I've always appreciated the camera on Pixel phones. While some might argue other Android phones have better cameras, Pixels excel as reliable point-and-shoot devices. But what I find particularly interesting is the manual mode on the Pixel Pro models. It's a fantastic starting point if you're eager to improve your photography skills.

It turns out, there's a nifty feature that many Pixel Pro users might have missed. A Reddit user recently pointed out a zoomed-in viewfinder window that pops up when using manual focus. When you switch to manual focus on your Pixel Pro, you probably noticed the focus peaking visual cues that help you nail the focus. However, there's a small overlay button that appears, which, when tapped, unveils an additional zoomed-in viewfinder in the top right corner of the screen.

This smaller viewfinder also displays the focus peaking visual cues, allowing for much more precise focus adjustments. If you tap anywhere on the main viewfinder, the view inside the smaller viewfinder will re-center. It's like having a magnifying glass for your focus! Think about it: it's the difference between seeing a blurry outline and pinpointing the exact moment sharpness snaps into place. You can see the details, ensuring your subject is tack-sharp.

For example, imagine you're taking a portrait and want to ensure the subject's eyes are perfectly in focus. With the zoomed-in viewfinder, you can see the minute details and make those critical adjustments. It is available on several devices, like Pixel Fold, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. I think it's a great feature. All those models offer pro controls within the Pixel Camera app. These controls give you detailed command over settings like focus, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, exposure, and shadows. You can also adjust other settings like lens, resolution, and format.

To access these Pro controls on your supported Pixel, simply open the Pixel Camera app and tap the settings slider button located on the bottom right.

Did you know about this hidden focus peaking viewfinder on your Pixel Pro? I didn't until recently, and I'm already finding it incredibly useful. I think you should give it a try.
