Windows Clipboard Sync

Windows is finally bringing Mac-style clipboard sync magic to Android

Software

It's always a hassle when you're trying to move text – especially something like a code snippet or a lengthy paragraph – from your Windows PC to your Android phone. Usually, I end up emailing it to myself or using WhatsApp, which feels clunky. Thankfully, Microsoft is working on a solution that could make this process way smoother: clipboard syncing.

Imagine copying something on your computer and having it instantly available to paste on your phone! That's the promise of this new feature Microsoft is currently testing. While it sounds simple, there are a few hoops you'll have to jump through. First, you'll need to ensure you're logged into the same Microsoft account on both your PC and your Android device. Your phone also needs to be connected to your PC via the Mobile Devices settings, and you'll need the Link to Windows app installed and running on your phone.

Once you've got all that set up, the next step, according to Windows Latest, is to grab the latest Dev build of Windows. Now, I haven't personally had luck getting the feature to appear on my device running the Dev build, but your mileage may vary. If you manage to get the update, head over to Settings on your PC, then Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices > Manage devices, and flip the switch to enable "Access PC's clipboard".

The cool part is, once enabled, anything you copy on your Windows PC should automatically show up on your Android phone's keyboard. From what I've heard, it's supposed to work with various keyboards, like Samsung Keyboard and Gboard. It is important to emphasize that the feature isn't new. However, it was removed soon after its appearance. This time, the comeback shows that Microsoft is confident in introducing the feature.

To be honest, this feature can't come soon enough. The clipboard sync feature will be welcomed with open arms by Windows users, especially since the sync feature of SwiftKey, Microsoft’s own Android keyboard app, doesn’t work at all. It is interesting to note that the support team has repeatedly stated on various forums over the past few months that they are addressing the issue, but it still hasn’t been resolved.
