Samsung S25 Edge: Ultrathin Design
Samsung's newly launched Galaxy S25 Edge boasts an impressively thin design, measuring only 5.8mm thick. This ultra-slim profile has become the focal point of Samsung's marketing campaign, directly contrasting the iPhone 16 Pro's perceived bulkier form factor.
A Battle of the Balloons and Barriers
Two promotional videos highlight the S25 Edge's lightweight nature (163 grams). One video uses balloons to illustrate the difference in weight between the S25 Edge and the iPhone 16 Pro (199 grams), showing the Samsung device remaining airborne even after more balloons are popped. A second video showcases the phone's slim profile by successfully navigating a progressively narrower gap, contrasting with the iPhone 16 Pro which is unable to pass.
Trade-offs for Thinness
Achieving such a slim design necessitates compromises. The S25 Edge features a slightly smaller 3,900mAh battery compared to the standard S25 model, lacks a telephoto camera, and supports slower 25W wired charging. However, it retains compelling features, including a 200MP main camera, a QHD+ display, and Gorilla Armor Ceramic 2 screen protection.
The Upcoming Competition
Samsung’s marketing blitz comes ahead of the expected launch of Apple's iPhone 17 Air, rumored to be even thinner, possibly between 5.5 and 5.65mm. This suggests a proactive strategy to maximize attention before facing a potential competitor with a similarly focused design philosophy.
