AirPods May Soon Offer Real-Time In-Person Translation

Imagine a world where language barriers disappear instantly. That's the promise hinted at in the latest iOS 26 beta 6, where eagle-eyed users discovered some compelling imagery suggesting that Apple might be bringing real-time, in-person translation to the AirPods. I think this is going to be a game changer.

The evidence is in a picture tucked away within the beta's files. The image shows AirPods alongside the word "Hello" rendered in multiple languages. More interestingly, it suggests that a double-press gesture could be the key to activating this instant translation magic. This isn't just a rumor; it aligns perfectly with what Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicted before the unveiling of iOS 26. He mentioned a translation feature for AirPods designed to facilitate in-person conversations.

Considering that iOS 26 already boasts Live Translation capabilities for Phone calls, Messages, and FaceTime, extending this functionality to in-person interactions via AirPods feels like a logical step. I can see myself using this while travelling abroad, or even in business meetings with international clients.

But which AirPods will get this feature? It seems the initial rollout is targeted towards the AirPods Pro 2 and the AirPods 4. And, since existing Live Translation relies on Apple Intelligence, it's plausible that you'll need an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence to unlock the full potential of real-time translation on your AirPods.

So, when can we expect this feature? It could arrive with the official launch of iOS 26 or perhaps in a subsequent update. I believe that it will make our life a lot easier.
