I think it's great news for Pixel users! Google is finally bringing AirDrop compatibility to the Pixel 9 series via Quick Share. What this means is that if you own a Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, or even the 9 Pro Fold, you can now seamlessly share files with iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This feature has already started rolling out to some users, even before the official announcement, which is always a pleasant surprise.

For a long time, cross-platform file sharing has been a pain point. Previously, only Pixel 10 users had this capability. Now, however, Google is expanding this functionality, allowing Pixel 9 owners to send and receive files directly with Apple devices using AirDrop’s "Everyone for 10 minutes" setting. It's just like using AirDrop on an iPhone - direct, peer-to-peer transfers that don't rely on servers.

Google emphasizes that privacy and speed are crucial. The feature includes multi-layered security and robust safeguards. And this is not only available to pixel devices. Wider support is coming soon, meaning Google is collaborating with other Android manufacturers to bring Quick Share-AirDrop compatibility to more devices. This rollout will occur in phases for Pixel 9 users over the coming weeks. Sadly, the Pixel 9a is not included for now.
