iPhone 17: Select Models Expected to Get a RAM Boost, Analyst Claims
It looks like Apple might be boosting the memory in some of its next iPhones. I've been hearing whispers that a few iPhone 17 models could be getting a RAM upgrade, and now a new report is adding fuel to the fire.
According to TrendForce, the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max are all expected to come with 12GB of RAM. That's a step up from the current iPhone 16 lineup. However, if you're eyeing the base iPhone 17, it's likely to stick with 8GB of RAM, which is the same as all the iPhone 16 models.
This lines up with what Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said a few months back. He also predicted that the higher-end iPhone 17 models would get the 12GB RAM treatment. So, it seems like the rumors are starting to solidify.
Why does RAM matter? Well, more RAM can lead to snappier performance, especially when you're juggling multiple apps or doing demanding tasks. It could also be a boon for Apple Intelligence, which is Apple's fancy name for its AI features. As someone who often has a dozen apps open at once, I definitely appreciate any boost in multitasking capabilities.
If this pans out, it'll be interesting to see how much of a difference the extra RAM makes in real-world use. We'll likely find out on Tuesday, September 9 when the iPhone 17 series is expected to be released.
