iPhone 17 Charging Speed: USB-C and MagSafe Tested!
Okay, so I've been digging into some early tests on the iPhone 17's charging capabilities, and it looks like we might be seeing a slight but noticeable bump in speed. ChargerLAB put the standard iPhone 17 through its paces with a range of Apple chargers, and the results are pretty interesting.
While using different Apple chargers, from a modest 18W brick all the way up to a beefy 140W one, the iPhone 17 peaked at around 27W to 28W. Now, that's not going to blow anyone away, but it's a step up from the iPhone 16, which ChargerLAB says tops out around 23W. Every little bit helps, right?
Of course, you'll need the right USB-C cable to actually get those faster charging speeds. Don't just grab any old cable you have lying around, because some of the cheaper ones simply can't handle the power delivery. If you're not sure, the cable that comes with the iPhone should do the trick. It seems obvious, but I've been caught out by this before!
What about wireless charging? Well, using Apple's latest MagSafe Charger, the standard iPhone 17 hit a peak charging speed of 29W. It's important to point out that Apple themselves say that sustained MagSafe charging will reach speeds of up to 25W. I feel the difference is not much and probably unoticeable on everyday use.
Overall, while it's not a massive overhaul, the iPhone 17 appears to offer slightly improved charging speeds compared to its predecessor. I think this is a positive sign, especially as we move towards a future where faster charging is becoming increasingly important.
