iOS 26 CarPlay Improvements

Mobile Technology

While much attention focuses on CarPlay Ultra, Apple is poised to introduce significant improvements to the standard CarPlay system alongside the release of iOS 26. Expected to be unveiled at WWDC 2025, iOS 26 will reportedly enhance the in-car experience in at least two key areas.

Accessibility Expansion

Building on the Sound Recognition feature introduced in iOS 18, iOS 26 will reportedly extend this accessibility feature for CarPlay. Previously limited to external sounds like sirens and horns, the update will add the ability to detect the sound of a crying baby within the vehicle, proving beneficial for parents and caregivers.

Enhanced User Interface

Reports suggest that iOS 26’s design updates, characterized by a sleeker, more translucent aesthetic for app icons, menus, and buttons, will extend to CarPlay. This visual overhaul aligns with the overall design philosophy of the upcoming iOS release, creating a more cohesive user experience across devices.

The first beta version of iOS 26 is anticipated soon after the keynote presentation, with a general release likely in September. Further CarPlay refinements may also be included in the final release.

The addition of a Large Text option to CarPlay, mirroring a long-standing iPhone feature, promises increased readability and accessibility for users who prefer larger font sizes.
