Google's Gemini AI Expands to Wear OS, Android Auto This Year

Mobile Technology

Google's Gemini chatbot, already a presence on numerous Android smartphones and accessible via the web, is poised for a significant expansion. Currently, Google Assistant remains the primary interface for smartwatches, Android Auto, and smart displays. However, this is slated to change as Google plans to integrate Gemini across these platforms later this year.

During Google's Q1 2025 earnings call, CEO Sundar Pichai announced the impending broader deployment of Gemini. While Pichai refrained from specifying a precise launch date, industry analysts anticipate further details to emerge at the upcoming Google I/O event next month.

This development aligns with earlier reports and discoveries regarding Gemini's potential integration with other Google ecosystems. As early as January, indications surfaced regarding Gemini's arrival on Wear OS smartwatches. Further investigation into the Android Auto application in August 2024 revealed evidence of Gemini Live, a feature that was even activated, suggesting an imminent launch.

The extension of Gemini Live to additional product categories is particularly noteworthy. Its multi-language support, coupled with its reported speed and responsiveness, has garnered praise. However, users who have long depended on Google Assistant, with its established routines and commands, may experience a period of adjustment as Gemini's feature set continues to evolve.
