As a long-time gamer, I can tell you there's something incredibly satisfying about unlocking achievements. It's like a digital pat on the back, a way to show off your skills. For years, RetroAchievements has been the go-to for adding that extra layer of challenge and reward to classic emulated games.

If you're anything like me and love diving into retro games on your phone, this is pretty cool news. You can now unlock achievements while playing GameCube games on your Android device. It’s worth pointing out that it was already possible on PC, but now it's finally arrived on mobile.

However, before you get too excited, there are a few things you should know. To get it working right now, you'll need to download one of the latest development versions of the Dolphin emulator. It's not in the stable version yet. Think of it as a sneak peek, a chance to get in on the action early.

There's also another slight catch: While you can earn achievements, you won't see those satisfying pop-up notifications when you unlock them. You'll have to check the achievement list within the app. For me, it's not a big deal, but I can understand that some of you may want to wait until it's fully implemented to get the full experience.

The good news is that the developers are actively working on it, so expect those improvements to arrive soon in a stable release. And, believe me, it's a huge deal. When GameCube support first launched last year, only around 100 games were supported. Now, that number is closer to 750, with more being added all the time.

Looking ahead, RetroAchievements plans to add support for Wii games next year. Since Dolphin is also the best Wii emulator, I imagine the rollout to Android will be much faster.

If you're impatient like me, and want to jump in right away, grab the latest Dolphin dev build and create a free RetroAchievements account. Then you can start earning achievements and show off your retro gaming prowess!
