Foldable iPhone Touch ID Likely on Side Button, Analyst Predicts

Mobile

So, the foldable iPhone is still a hot topic, and everyone's trying to guess what Apple's going to do with it. One thing that's been going around is whether it'll have Touch ID under the screen.

Well, Ming-Chi Kuo, who's pretty well-known for his Apple predictions, is sticking to his guns. He reckons that instead of an under-display sensor, the foldable iPhone will likely have Touch ID built into the side button, just like on some iPads.

Now, there's been some chatter about Apple going for an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, but Kuo doesn't think that's very likely. He actually mentioned this way back in March when he first talked about the 2026 foldable iPhone.

If you think about it, it makes sense. Apple's already done the side-button Touch ID thing with the iPad Air and iPad mini, so it's not like they're breaking new ground here. According to Kuo, Luxshare ICT is expected to supply the side-button Touch ID module.

Kuo's also given us a peek at what the foldable iPhone might look like. He's talking about a book-style design with a roughly 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen. Oh, and it's not going to be cheap: expect to pay somewhere between $2,000 and $2,500. To save space, Apple might ditch Face ID.

As for cameras, the foldable iPhone will have a dual-lens rear camera. Plus, it'll feature a front-facing camera that can be used when the phone is both folded and unfolded.

Both Kuo and another analyst, Jeff Pu, are saying that mass production is planned for the second half of 2026. Also, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg expects the device to be launched next year, probably in the fall. If that happens, get ready for another round of Apple craze!.
