It's great to see Fairphone keeping its promise of long-term support. While they aren't always the quickest to roll out updates, the company has officially announced that the Fairphone Gen 6 will be getting Android 16. I think that's awesome, considering how many companies abandon their phones after just a couple of years.

The announcement came through an Instagram post, hinting that the update is "coming soon." Now, "soon" can mean different things to different people, but I am hoping it won't be too long. It's true that companies like Samsung and Xiaomi push out updates faster, but let's be real: Fairphone is a much smaller player. They don't have the same resources, so some delay is understandable.

So, what can you expect from Android 16? Live updates are a big one, meaning your phone restarts less often after installing them. There's also forced grouping for notifications, if you're into that kind of organization, as well as a "notification cooldown" feature, which could be handy if you're getting bombarded with alerts. Plus, who doesn't love new emoji? It's also expected to include an Advanced Protection Mode, offering enhanced security for those who need it.

If you're a Fairphone 6 owner, keep an eye out for that update notification. And, naturally, I'm sure Fairphone 5 users are eager to know when they'll get a taste of Android 16 as well. Hopefully, Fairphone won't keep them waiting too long!
